Lukooya’s claims have sparked fresh political debate in Mukono, with Nambooze’s response focusing on the district chairperson’s credibility rather than addressing the substance of his assertion that he facilitated the meeting.
Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze Bakireke has hit back at Mukono District Chairperson Francis Lukooya Mukoome after he claimed to have facilitated a secret meeting between her and President Yoweri Museveni.
While addressing residents at Katosi Town Council on Tuesday, Lukooya said he personally helped Nambooze meet President Museveni, although he declined to disclose where the meeting took place, what was discussed, or its purpose.
“I am unaware of the current relationship between President Museveni and Nambooze. My involvement ended after connecting them,” Lukooya told the gathering.

He also offered to help Mukono South MP Robert Maseruka secure a meeting with the President, assuring him that, unlike in Nambooze’s case, he would not publicly reveal the arrangement afterward.
During his remarks, Lukooya used a Luganda proverb, saying, “Omuwa butwa alina ky’alya tabulako gw’atta,” literally translated as, “A poison giver who has something to offer never lacks victims.”
Following the publication of Lukooya’s remarks, Nambooze responded in a message shared on a WhatsApp group attacking both the reporter and the district chairman. While Nambooze did not directly deny that such a meeting took place, she strongly criticized the district chairperson, accusing him of dishonesty, election malpractice, and engaging in witchcraft.
“Because you do not fear God, you also do not fear telling lies or rigging votes,” she wrote.
She further alleged that Lukooya’s intention to make a connection with her and President Museveni was intended to tarnish her reputation.
“You also know your man is a shame, and whenever you associate him with someone, that person becomes tainted. That is why you keep linking him to people,” she said.
Lukooya’s claims have sparked fresh political debate in Mukono, with Nambooze’s response focusing on the district chairperson’s credibility rather than addressing the substance of his assertion that he facilitated the meeting.
Neither President Museveni nor State House had commented on Lukooya’s claims by press time.
