Four Mbale City Officials Interdicted Over Alleged Negligence, Abuse of Office

The interdictions are intended to pave the way for investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and other relevant government agencies.

The Ministry of Local Government has directed the interdiction of four senior officials in Mbale City over allegations of gross negligence of duty, abuse of office, mismanagement of public resources, and possible financial impropriety.

 

In a letter dated July 22, 2026, Permanent Secretary Ben Kumumanya instructed the Mbale City Town Clerk to immediately interdict Principal Civil Engineer Eng. Kasaata Edson, Principal Health Officer (Environmental Health) Mr. Wandera Charles, Senior Civil Engineer Eng. Wanasolo Anthony, and Senior Physical Planner Mr. Fred Nambafu.

 

According to the letter, the decision follows a meeting convened by the Minister of Local Government in Mbale District, where a number of concerns were raised against the four officials.

The ministry said the allegations include gross negligence of duty, abuse of office, mismanagement of public resources, and possible financial impropriety, which it says have significantly compromised service delivery in the district.

 

The interdictions are intended to pave the way for investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and other relevant government agencies.

 

The Permanent Secretary directed the Town Clerk to implement the interdictions with immediate effect in accordance with Section (F-s-) 14 of the Public Service Standing Orders, 2021.

 

“The purpose of this communication is to forward to you the above instruction for your urgent action accordingly,” the letter states.

Copies of the directive were sent to the Minister of Local Government, the Minister of State for Local Government, the Inspector General of Government, the Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, the Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Resident City Commissioner of Mbale City, and the Mayor of Mbale City.

 

The affected officials are expected to remain off duty as investigations into the allegations proceed.
