The Traffic Police have confirmed that only two people died in a fatal accident that involved 14 vehicles and two motorcycles (bodabodas).
Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police spokesperson said that the accident that happened on Thursday evening involved moving vehicle registration number UBD 520H Fuso Box Body, thirteen (13) other cars & two (02) Motorcycles.
Kananura said the accident happened on Thursday evening 7/12/2023 on the Northern Bypass- Namboole Round about at about 07:00pm.
“According to initial reports from our first responders, the driver of M/V Reg No UBD 520H, transporting maize from Naalya to Namboole, lost control at the roundabout, failed to brake, and rammed into 13 cars and 02 motorcycles, resulting in the loss of two lives,” he affirmed in a Police report.
He said that the deceased persons include; 01 female Passenger who was on a motorcycle & a male who by presstime had not been identified.
“An unspecified number of people were also injured and rushed to Gwatiro & Mulago Hospitals for treatment while, the two dead bodies were also conveyed to Mulago City mortuary for postmortem examination.”
Kananura said that the motor vehicles which were involved in the accident had been towed to Bweyogere Police Station pending Inspection.
He assured that the investigations into the cause of the crash had kicked off and the hunt for the Fuso driver who is on the run had also commenced.
