Police Officers in Gulu City are grief-stricken following the death of their colleague as a result of stabbing by her boyfriend.
The deceased, Police Constable Akera Harriet, attached to Namukozi Police Station in Mityana district, was attacked during a meeting with the suspect, Denis Brian Apire, 26, in Bardege-Layibi Division.
Police say a quarrel broke out when the officer allegedly attempted to arrest the boyfriend whom she accused of theft, prompting a confrontation in which he stabbed her in the back and shoulder.
She later died at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor after being rushed for treatment. It is alleged that after stabbing Akera, the suspect Apire tried to escape but he was pursued by the bodaboda riders who later handed him over to police.
He is therefore in custody as the investigations into the case commenced.
