President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as Uganda’s new Deputy Chief Justice and Her Worship Agnes Alum as the new Chief Registrar, State House announced Thursday.
Justice Kawumi’s appointment has been submitted to Parliament, which must approve it before he officially assumes the role. Meanwhile, Chief Registrar Alum’s appointment is already in effect.

The Chief Registrar, on the other hand, is the administrative head of the judiciary. The role involves managing court operations, supervising court staff, and ensuring smooth functioning across all levels of the judicial system. By handling these responsibilities, the Chief Registrar plays a vital role in maintaining efficiency and transparency in Uganda’s courts.
The State House did not elaborate on the professional backgrounds of Justice Kawumi or Chief Registrar Alum, but their appointments signal the government’s continued focus on strengthening judicial leadership and institutional effectiveness.
