Car dealers of M/S Kubeera Motors and General Agencies are looking for Ugandan musician Catherine Kusasira to recover sh200m they paid her in respect of the TOYOTA Land Cruiser vehicle model 2020, which she sold to them three years ago.

President Museveni in 2020 gave Kusasira the vehicle for easy execution of her duties as a special presidential assistant, and as a token of appreciation for good services and adherence to the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

However, in 2021, she realised the vehicle was very expensive to maintain due to its fuel guzzling nature and high cost of servicing it and for other requirements. She sold the vehicle to Kubeera Motors at a cost of sh200m, and they set a sh350m resale price for it.

To date, Kusasira and M/s Kubeera Motors are still haggling, with the latter still demanding return of their money, and the former still unable to find a willing buyer.

Dan Nimwesiga Mbasa, the Operations Officer for Kubeera Motors says since buying the vehicle from Kusasira, they have been trying to resell it but that willing buyers almost immediately change their wishes.

Nimwesiga added that the last customer was withdrawing money from a bank to pay, and immediately changed heart, saying the vehicle had a problem.

At URA, they were told that the vehicle had a red flag, implying that its ownership cannot be transferred because it is registered as a government property. They dragged Kusasira to court but she did not turn up and to date, she is said to be out of the country.

Kusasira, who said she went to the US for medical treatment, confirmed the foregoing, and added that she used the money got from the car sale for emergency requirements after the COVID-19 period.

She is said to have consulted vehicle sale experts who confirmed to her that although the President had given her the car and had it registered into her name, it remains government property, and that if she is tired of it, she can only return it to the government.

Kusasira said when all seemed to have failed, she approached President Museveni who agreed to return the sh200m to Kubeera Motors, but that the individuals sanctioned by the President to oversee this job are silent.

She however expressed fears that even when the seal is lifted, she might again find a problem selling it as Kubeera Motors might fear encountering a similar hurdle.
