The police in Kayunga District on Wednesday afternoon dispersed a group of angry residents, who had stormed the Resident District Commissioner’s (RDC) office protesting against Mariam Seguya’s continued occupation of the office of RDC despite “her alleged transfer”.

The protesters, most of them youths, claimed that Seguya, who has been Kayunga RDC for about two years, had been transferred to Luweero District but that they are surprised that despite this, she has continued to occupy the office and transact work of RDC as usual.

“The RDC was recently transferred to Luweero District, what is she still doing in this office? Let her go and we get a new one,” one protester shouted. They claimed that they were “concerned NRM supporters”.

Seguya, the daughter of late Ahmed Seguya who was the first NRA bush war commander is a born of the district and has always been telling people of Kayunga how she was proud to work in Kayunga, her home district.

The protesters, however, did not give any reasons for their protest. The RDC was not in office at the time when the protestors stormed her office.

As the protestors shouted outside the RDC’s office, police officers from the nearby Kayunga Central Police Station, swung into action and ordered them to leave.

They heeded to the police’s orders and boarded a waiting truck.

When contacted, RDc Seguya, however, dismissed reports that she had been transferred to Luweero District.

“I didn’t deploy myself as RDC in Kayunga. If the appointing authority transfers me, I will leave but I can’t just leave,” Seguya said.

She wondered why some people in the area were fighting her when she had not fought or decampaigned anyone.

“Those are malicious acts and whoever is behind them is doing so for selfish interests. If I was transferred as they allege, let them show you my replacement with his or her appointment letter,” she asserted.

She vowed to continue transacting her work despite the negative forces fighting her.
