The head of Makerere University’s department of Zoology, Entomology and Fisheries Science, Dr. Kawooya Kubiriza, disclosed that that she had successfully completed her Master’s degree, specializing in poultry by-products, and that graduation was set to be held in three weeks at Makerere University.

Mukono District Aquaculture Officer, Josephine Namanda who last week succumbed to bodily injuries sustained in a bodaboda accident as she travelled to work, was on Friday laid to rest at her ancestral burial ground at Katolerarwa village, Misanvu Town Council in Bukomansimbi district.

During the funeral service, Mukono Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Henry Ddamba, urged civil servants to work with integrity, dedication, and selflessness, citing the late Namanda as a true example of public service that leaves a lasting legacy.
The send-off ceremony and Thanksgiving mass was led by Rev. Fr. Denis Kibirige of St. Andrew Kaggwa Catholic Church-Kichwa Mpoma Parish who hailed Namanda as a loving and welcoming mother who embraced everyone regardless of age.

Kawooya said the late Namanda’s research focused on converting offal, unhatched eggs and cocks into protein sources for animal feed formulation, with plans in the pipeline to commercialize the innovation, and described her as quick-minded, jolly, kind, humble and hardworking.
Mr. Ssajjabi (Supa), a fish farmer in Nama sub-county, Mukono District who lived and worked closely with the late Namanda, praised her professionalism and mentorship, and credited her for inspiring him to venture into fish farming and lamented the loss of such a productive extension worker, noting that her death leaves a significant gap in service delivery.
In his eulogy, the Production officer for Mukono District Local Government, Dr. Fred Mukulu, described Namanda as one of the best officers he had worked with in his career.

Dr. Mukulu highlighted her effectiveness and efficiency in technical work, as well as her positive impact on family, community, and church during her nine years of service in the district.
In one of the latest condolence messages, producers of Radio Simba’s ‘Ntabanjaliire’ Programme where Nalongo Josephine Namanda was a co-facilitator, said that Luweero and Gomba District Fisheries Officers were in arrangements to invite her to help train farmers in their districts on the best value addition practices in fish farming.
Pascal Mweruka, the head of radio station’s Green Leaf Magazine under the Farm Radio International, praised the deceased for her commitment to share her vast fisheries experience with whoever cared to listen to her, with no reservation, which he said has helped many farmers pick key elements of fish breeding, feeding, reproduction and treatment.

Born on 11th August 1985 in Bukomansimbi District, Namanda completed her Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries in 2009 and later pursued a Master’s degree, with graduation slated for 24th February 2026. She began work as a fisheries officer for Nama sub-county on 27th May 2018, and later confirmed on 8th May 2018. On 2nd May 2025, she was promoted to a District Fisheries Officer in charge of Aquatics. She leaves a family of five children.
