“People in Kayunga are very jealous. They do not want people who are ahead of them. Poverty is very bad. You become angry at someone simply because you lack what to eat,” he added.

The son of the late Senior Presidential Adviser and Kayunga District NRM chairperson, Moses Karisa Karangwa, has responded angrily to critics celebrating his father’s death on social media, accusing them of being driven by jealousy and poverty.
Karangwa died on Monday evening following a fatal road accident along the Kayunga–Jinja Road.
In a video clip circulating on social media, the deceased’s son challenged critics to attend the burial arrangements and witness what he described as the lifestyle and wealth his father left behind.
“Those dancing, come and attend a funeral which does not require collecting condolence fees. Come and witness what Karangwa is. Even after his death, there is no need to make clan members sit and collect coins for burial arrangements. He left rooms full of money; we just pick the amounts we want and fund the arrangements,” he said.

He further claimed that some residents in Kayunga resent successful people.
“People in Kayunga are very jealous. They do not want people who are ahead of them. Poverty is very bad. You become angry at someone simply because you lack what to eat,” he added.
His remarks came after a section of social media users shared videos, audio recordings and messages celebrating Karangwa’s death instead of mourning with the family. The reactions reportedly caused pain among relatives and friends of the deceased.
The situation escalated to the extent that administrators of a community WhatsApp group in Kayunga District temporarily shut down the platform after members flooded it with celebratory messages following news of Karangwa’s death.
One administrator, identified only as “Clear Touch Consult,” restricted participation rights to administrators, leaving ordinary members only able to view messages.
In a message shared before the closure, the administrator said the decision was intended to protect grieving family members who are also part of the group.
“As an admin on this platform, I am closing it for some days until Friday, Inshallah. Our brothers related to Mr. Karangwa are going through pain, and discussions on this platform are causing more pain. It’s not the purpose of this platform to hurt others. Ekimala kimala bakwano,” the message read.
The closure followed heated discussions in which some residents reportedly expressed disbelief that a man they described as influential and feared could also die.
For years, Karangwa faced accusations from sections of residents who alleged that he was involved in land grabbing and used his government position to intimidate and evict vulnerable people from their land. However, there has been no publicly known court conviction against him over the allegations.
According to Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura, Karangwa died following a road crash at Suuka Village along the Kayunga–Jinja Road on May 17, 2026, at around 9:00 p.m.
Kananura said the accident involved a Toyota Hilux, registration number UG 0101 151, and an unidentified motorcycle.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the Toyota Hilux was travelling from Kayunga toward Jinja when it collided with a motorcycle that was reportedly joining the main road near Lake Oil Petrol Station in Suuka.
“As a result of the collision, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which overturned several times. Three passengers sustained injuries in the crash, including Mr. Kalangwa Kalisa Moses, who suffered critical injuries,” Kananura said.
The injured victims were initially rushed to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital before Karangwa was transferred to Nakasero Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police investigations into the crash are ongoing.
