Emmanuel Nsubuga was recognised as the Overall Best Sciences Student after graduating with a CGPA of 4.79 in the Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Analytics.
Uganda Christian University (UCU) celebrated the graduation of 1,274 students during its 27th Graduation Ceremony on Friday, with female graduates once again dominating academic performance as the institution recorded its highest-ever number of First Class degrees.
The colourful ceremony at the university’s main campus in Mukono highlighted UCU’s continued commitment to academic excellence and gender inclusion. Women accounted for 698 of the graduates, representing 55 percent of the class, while 576 graduates (45 percent) were men.
In a historic milestone, the university awarded 102 First Class honours—the highest number since its establishment. Female students led the achievement, earning 60 First Class degrees compared to 42 attained by their male counterparts.

The ceremony was presided over by the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Chancellor of UCU. The Guest of Honour was the retired Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and former UCU Chancellor, the Rt. Rev. Henry Luke Orombi, whose presence underscored the university’s rich heritage and continuity of leadership.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, Mr. David Mugawe, congratulated the graduates and praised the university’s progress in promoting academic excellence and gender parity.
“Out of the graduating students, 698 (55 percent) are female and 576 (45 percent) are male,” Mugawe said. “This graduation has the highest number of students who have attained First Class degrees, totaling 102. Of these, female students outperformed their male counterparts with 60 First Class degrees compared to 42.”
The university also recognised exceptional individual achievements.
Acen Daw, who graduated with a Bachelor of Procurement and Logistics Management, emerged as the Overall Best Student and Best Female Graduate after attaining an outstanding Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.91. She also received the award for Best Humanities/Arts Student.
Tusiime Kagoro Marvin was named the Overall Best Male Graduate after earning a CGPA of 4.85 in the Bachelor of Business Administration programme.

The university said the outstanding graduates reflect its commitment to producing professionals who combine academic excellence with strong ethical values grounded in Christian principles.
In his address, Chancellor Kazimba Mugalu challenged the graduates to become agents of positive transformation, urging them to apply their knowledge, skills and Christian values in addressing Uganda’s development challenges and contributing to the wider East African region.
The graduating class comprised students from a wide range of disciplines, including business, law, education, health sciences, theology, data science, and procurement and logistics management. The university continues to attract students from across Uganda and neighbouring countries, reinforcing its position as one of the region’s leading institutions of higher learning.
University officials expressed confidence that the graduates are well-prepared to make meaningful contributions to national development through ethical leadership, innovation and professional excellence.
The 27th Graduation Ceremony marks another milestone in UCU’s pursuit of academic excellence and its mission to shape future leaders for Uganda and beyond.
