The Prime Minister of the Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, has dismissed criticism questioning Africa’s allocation of 10 places at the FIFA World Cup, insisting the continent’s representatives have performed admirably despite several early exits.
In a statement shared on his X handle, Mayiga argued that judging Africa’s World Cup campaign solely by the number of teams eliminated ignores the broader context of the tournament.
He noted that Europe, which had 16 teams at the competition, has also seen nine sides eliminated, while the Americas have lost seven of their 12 representatives. Asia’s five teams and Oceania’s representatives have all exited the tournament.

Mayiga maintained that Africa’s teams have acquitted themselves well on the global stage and described the World Cup as a valuable learning experience for the continent’s football development.
He also called on Africans to rally behind the continent’s remaining representatives, regardless of regional differences.
