Tragedy as Classroom Collapses During Hailstorm, Killing Two P1 Pupils and Injuring Three

Two Primary One pupils have died and three others sustained critical injuries after a classroom collapsed during a heavy storm at Runyinya Primary School in Kigarama Sub-county, Sheema District.

 

The deceased have been identified as Joseph Musasizi and Ayesigye Griphine.

 

According to local authorities, the classroom caved in as strong winds and heavy rain battered the area, trapping several pupils beneath the debris. Residents and emergency responders rushed to the scene to rescue the children.

Sheema Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Sam Orikunda described the incident as tragic and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.

 

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families that have lost their children in this unfortunate incident. We also pray for the quick recovery of those receiving treatment,” Orikunda said.

 

Authorities have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the classroom collapse, including whether the building met the required structural standards.

 

The tragedy has raised fresh concerns about the safety and condition of school infrastructure, particularly during periods of severe weather.
