The Mt. St. Mary’s College Namagunga community is mourning the death of its Deputy Headteacher in charge of Academics and Welfare, Georgia Namirembe, whose passing has left students, staff, alumni and the wider education fraternity in deep sorrow.
Namirembe is reported to have died on Thursday following complications that developed after undergoing what had initially been described as a successful surgical operation at Mukono Diocese Church of Uganda Hospital.
According to information available, the veteran educator underwent surgery to address internal health complications. Although she was discharged from hospital after the operation, she reportedly spent only a few days at home before her condition deteriorated, prompting her readmission. She later succumbed to the post-surgery complications.

Her death has sparked an outpouring of grief, particularly among the school’s alumni under the Namagunga Old Girls Association (NOGA), who paid tribute to her dedicated service and commitment to the school.
“On a sad note, Ms. Georgia Namirembe, Deputy Head Teacher in charge of Administration and Welfare at Mt. St. Mary’s College Namagunga has gone to be with the Lord. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” NOGA said in a condolence message posted on X.
The school has since announced a series of funeral arrangements to honour the late educator. A requiem Mass is scheduled to be held at Mt. St. Mary’s College Namagunga at today (Friday) at midday, after which her body will be taken to her home in Kumukaaga-Kayanja for an overnight vigil.
Another requiem Mass will be celebrated at Namagunga Parish before the body is transported to her ancestral home in Masaka District, where she will be laid to rest.
Namirembe is remembered by colleagues, former students and the school community as a devoted educator who dedicated many years of her life to nurturing learners and promoting academic excellence and student welfare at one of Uganda’s leading girls’ secondary schools. Her death marks a significant loss to the institution and the country’s education sector.
