Police have arrested two suspects believed to be linked to the murder of SC Villa Football Club captain David Owor, in what investigators describe as a major breakthrough in the case.
According to Uganda Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Rusoke Kituuma, detectives established that Owor was robbed of his iPhone 14 Pro Max before he was killed. Tracking the stolen device led investigators to two suspects identified as Munyaneza Bashir, alias “Jemo,” a suspected dealer in stolen mobile phones, and his associate, Magoba Samuel.
Kituuma said the operation resulted in the recovery of four bags containing a large cache of suspected stolen mobile phones and other electronic devices.
The recovered items include 80 iPhones, 40 Samsung phones, eight Redmi phones, two Tecno phones, two Infinix phones, two Vivo phones, three button phones, four mobile phone motherboards, three iPads, and SIM cards from MTN, Safaricom, Airtel and Lyca.
Police also recovered ladies’ handbags containing identification documents, phone covers and hard drives, all believed to have been obtained through criminal activities.
Kituuma said investigators are now working to establish the full network behind the suspected phone theft racket and determine whether the recovered exhibits are linked to other reported robbery and theft cases.
He added that investigations into Owor’s murder are ongoing, with detectives pursuing additional leads as they seek to identify and apprehend all those responsible for the killing.
The arrests mark a significant step in the investigation, with police expressing optimism that the recovered evidence will help unravel both the murder of the SC Villa captain and a wider network dealing in suspected stolen mobile phones.
