An expelled student of Namilyango High School in Gulama, Mukono Municipality, was on Thursday arrested after allegedly sneaking back into the school and being found in a dormitory in the early hours of the morning.

The male student, currently in Senior Four, had reportedly been expelled last year while in Senior Three over multiple cases of indiscipline, including allegations of engaging into love affairs with fellow female students and theft of fellow students’ property.

According to school administrators, the already expelled student was discovered at around 2:00am in the dormitory, where he had allegedly gone to meet a female student who remains enrolled at the school. He was arrested alongside several other students, including his suspected girlfriend.

The school headteacher, Betty Ssali, confirmed the incident and said the main suspect was the expelled student who unlawfully returned to the school premises. She added that the other students were being treated as accomplices, including those suspected to have facilitated his entry and communication.

“We brought them to police to have their statements recorded and be cautioned. Apart from the main suspect, the rest of the students will not spend the night in custody. We plan to return them to school,” Ssali said.

She, however, dismissed claims that the student had been found in the girls’ dormitory, maintaining that he was apprehended on the boys’ side.

The suspect was detained at Mukono Central Police Station, while the other students were held briefly within the police premises as their statements were recorded.

Police have not yet issued an official statement on the matter, but investigations into the incident are ongoing.
