The Principal of National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has reported the violent abduction of the party’s head of security.
Kyagulanyi has identified the victim as as Achileo Kivumbi who was violently beaten immediately as the abductors picked him from his home.
He says that Kivumbi was trailed by heavily armed men who were moving in a Noah registration number UAP 164P who manhandled him as he approached his home.
The NUP Principal made the communication through his X handle on Thursday.
His communication goes as follows;
“Just learnt of the violent abduction this evening, of comrade Achileo Kivumbi, the head of Security at the @NUP_Ug Headquarters.
Apparently, several heavily armed men, moving in a Noah Reg. No. UAP 164P trailed him and manhandled him as he approached his home.
They immediately started beating him up as they dragged him into the vehicle and drove away. His pleas to inform his family members fell on deaf ears. He has been taken to an unknown destination.
We do not know what state he is in right now given what onlookers describe as an extremely violent abduction. The criminal regime continues to violate every human right there is in the book.”
A number of NUP supporters have of late been abducted, beaten and whisked away to unknown destinations where they are said to receive unending torture over a time.
The lucky ones are later released uncharged after spending days, weeks and months in the hands of the abductors. Others are produced to different police stations which release them on bond whereas the rest are produced before the General Court Martial, charged and remanded.
For now more than five years, the opposition mainly NUP members and leaders have been complaining of over and over again but their cries goes unattended to. There are over 18 NUP supporters who are said to have been abducted during the previous general elections but their whereabouts are upto date not known.
