Nation Media Group (NMG) has suspended all its online publications after the company temporarily shifted to digital platforms following the closure of its Ugandan media outlets by the state.
The suspension was communicated to staff during an internal virtual meeting held on Wednesday evening, where management informed employees that online publishing would be halted to avoid jeopardizing ongoing engagements with government aimed at resolving the impasse.
Despite the closure of their broadcast and print operations, NTV Uganda continued producing its popular Akawungeezi news bulletin online, while the Daily Monitor maintained routine news updates through its social media platforms.

According to the communication, discussions with government are already underway, including a meeting held on Wednesday at Entebbe between the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and senior NMG officials. However, management said it could not indicate when the matter would be resolved or when the affected media outlets would resume operations.

The meeting with Gen. Muhoozi was attended by NMG shareholder Rostam Aziz, Saam Aziz, Georgia Mutagaywa, Chief of Staff at Taarifa Limited, veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda, and the Acting UPDF/Defence Public Information Director, Col. Chris Magezi.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Justine Lumumba Kasule, said the closure of NMG’s Ugandan operations followed a security-led inquiry ordered by President Yoweri Museveni. Her remarks marked the first official explanation since security personnel shut down the company’s outlets over the weekend.
The affected outlets include the Daily Monitor, NTV Uganda, Spark TV, KFM, and Dembe FM, whose operations remain suspended pending the outcome of the ongoing discussions between the media house and government.
