Parents renting single rooms have been advised to halt sexual intercourse in the period they are to stay with their children at home during this long third term holiday.
The community liaison officer at Kasanje Police Station Ambrose Mugyenyi says most of the children today start engaging in sexual intercourse at a very tender age more so those who stay with their parents in rentals.
Mugyenyi says the latter happen to hear whereas others peep at their parents while playing sex as they grow up.
It is alleged that some parents don’t care while engaging in sexual intercourse thinking that their children are either too young or they are sleeping which sometimes tends to be a wrong mentality.
“The situation worsens when it comes to the couples where one of them or both are drunkards. Such people do not care about engaging in sexual activities while their children are either looking or hearing,” he said.
Mugyenyi made the remarks during the community free legal camp organised by different Human Rights Defenders in Wakiso district. The legal camp was organised in conjunction with the political leaders at Kasanje Town Council.
The police officer advised all parents who are staying in single rooms to halt sexual activities for the period they are to stay with their children during this long holiday and the festivities.
Parents were therefore advised that when it is too much for them to abstain for all this long period of the holiday, they should think of getting a safe place including lodges away from home where they can enjoy each other without turning themselves into nuisances before their children.
In most of the cases, female parents have been heard complaining about their male spouses who force them into sex without minding whether their children are seeing or hearing.
The vice, according to the victims, is caused by drunkenness and domestic violence.
“Such children start experimenting with what they hear and see with their fellow age mates either at the neighbourhood or at school. At the end of the day, it’s the reason we are registering many teenage pregnancies and school dropouts,” Mugyenyi said.
Led by Councillor Fred Busuulwa Musansala, the Kasanje TC leaders said they have registered tremendous change in the areas of human rights defence in the period they have been with the team of human rights defenders in Wakiso district.
However, Irene Namyalo, from Redeem International, one of the organisations that provided services in the legal aid camp said they discovered a very big number of people facing challenges as far as legal services are concerned though when they organise such free legal activities, they receive a limited number of clients.
