Parliament has in recent years been pushing for increased use of technology to reduce paperwork and improve communication and record management.
The Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, has revealed that some Members of Parliament in the 12th Parliament do not know how to operate the recently procured iPads distributed by Parliament.
Speaking during the rollout of the devices, Mwesige said Parliament’s ICT department will conduct training sessions to equip MPs with the necessary digital skills to effectively use the gadgets in their parliamentary work.
According to Parliament, all 529 MPs are set to receive free iPads valued at approximately sh2.5m each as part of efforts to enhance efficiency and support a transition toward digital operations within the House.
The devices are expected to help legislators access parliamentary documents, committee reports, bills, and other official materials electronically.
Mwesige emphasized that the training will ensure that every MP is able to fully utilize the tablets to improve service delivery and legislative work.
The development has sparked public discussion, with some Ugandans questioning the level of digital literacy among leaders, while others have welcomed the move to provide training and modernize parliamentary operations.
