The controversy comes amid growing public backlash over Among’s recent lavish spending, including the purchase of a brand-new Rolls-Royce valued at over Shs 3.7 billion, raising questions about the source of her funds.

The outgoing Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among is facing intense scrutiny after a group of Ugandan citizens filed a formal complaint with the Inspectorate of Government (IGG), accusing her of failing to declare her full wealth as required under the Leadership Code Act.

The complaint claims Speaker Among neglected her legal duty to submit a complete declaration of income, assets, and liabilities—a requirement meant to ensure transparency and accountability among public officials. Violations of the law can attract penalties including fines, demotion, or dismissal.

The controversy comes amid growing public backlash over Among’s recent lavish spending, including the purchase of a brand-new Rolls-Royce valued at over Shs 3.7 billion, raising questions about the source of her funds.

The citizens behind the complaint—Andrew Karamagi, Mercy Munduru, Kato Tumusiime, Gift Grace Achilla, Praise Aloikin, and Godwin Toko—have demanded that the IGG release Speaker Among’s asset declaration, if any, and said they are ready to assist in the investigation.

The IGG has yet to respond, but the case has already sparked heated debate over accountability and fiscal transparency among Uganda’s top political leaders.
