Etilu’s arrest comes against the backdrop of ongoing investigations into alleged corruption within Parliament, investigations that have drawn significant attention to former Speaker Anita Among.
Concern is growing among leaders in the Teso sub-region following the continued detention of Amuria District Woman MP Margaret Etilu, whose whereabouts remain unclear days after her arrest.
Etilu was apprehended by a team of detectives at the residence of former Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among on the eve of the recent parliamentary Speaker elections. Since then, neither her family nor fellow legislators have received clear information about where she is being held, her health condition, or the charges she may be facing.
The uncertainty has prompted regional leaders to demand answers from security agencies.
Francis Akorikin, the MP for Kapelebyong County, said efforts are underway to secure Etilu’s release through parliamentary channels. He revealed that members of Parliament recently met Speaker Jacob Oboth Oboth to discuss the matter.

“We had an engagement this week with Speaker Jacob Oboth Oboth on how to secure freedom for the Amuria Woman MP. The Speaker offered assurances that he will help, but we still don’t know much about her whereabouts, her state of mind, or her health,” Akorikin said.
As concern deepens, the Teso Parliamentary Caucus has resolved to take a more active role in the matter.
Amuria County MP Samuel Ediau said a joint delegation comprising regional legislators and Etilu’s family members is preparing to engage security agencies directly. The group intends to establish her exact location, understand the circumstances surrounding her arrest, and push for her immediate release.

The first-time legislator recently won the Amuria District Woman MP seat, succeeding Suzan Amero, who stepped down after serving three consecutive terms since 2011. Sources indicate that Etilu maintained close political and personal ties with Among throughout her campaign and after her electoral victory.
Despite mounting public interest in the case, security agencies have yet to issue an official statement explaining the reasons for Etilu’s arrest or disclosing where she is being detained.
