The National Environment Protection Authority (NEMA) seems to have started the year 2025 in full gear in a bid to reclaim wetlands encroached on illegally by investors, and this time round, in what seems to be an effort indiscriminately targeting all encroachers, a Chinese investment has been affected.

A joint massive wetland restoration exercise has been conducted by NEMA, Environment Police Protection Unit (EPPU) and the Ministry of Water operatives at Ensawoyeetoba Wetland at Ssanga parish in Wakiso district.

Property worth millions of money belonging to M/S China Steel Ltd who built a number of installations in the wetland has today Thursday January 9, 2025 been destroyed.

By law, a person who encroaches on a wetland commits an offence punishable by a fine not exceeding 30,000 currency points or imprisonment not exceeding two years or both.

Last year, NEMA in conjunction with Environmental Police destroyed property worth millions of shillings as it evicted a Pentecostal church out of a wetland located at Seeta in Mukono Municipality. NEMA identified the evicted church as Blood of Jesus Ministries International located opposite Seeta High School Main Campus along Kampala-Jinja highway.
