Grief as Archbishop Kaziimba’s Father Dies, Burial Program Released

According to the burial program released alongside the announcement, a funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at All Saints’ Cathedral in Nakesero, Kampala, starting at 10:00 a.m. and ending at 12:30 p.m.

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has announced the death of his father, Besweri Kaddu, who passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

In a message shared Tuesday evening on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Archbishop informed Christians and the general public of the loss, describing his father’s passing as a transition “to glory.”

“Brother Bishops and Maamas, Clergy, and all God’s people, Praise God from whom all blessings flow,” he wrote. “I hereby inform you that my Father Besweri Kaddu has passed on to glory today 14th April, 2026. We thank God for the gift of life He has given him.”

The announcement has drawn condolences from across the country, with religious leaders, clergy, and faithful expressing sympathy and offering prayers to the Archbishop and his family.

According to the burial program released alongside the announcement, a funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at All Saints’ Cathedral in Nakesero, Kampala, starting at 10:00 a.m. and ending at 12:30 p.m.

Later that evening, a vigil will take place at the family home in Gulama Najja, Buikwe District, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The burial is scheduled for Friday, April 17, 2026, with a funeral service at 12:00 noon in Gulama Najja, Buikwe District.

The Archbishop called upon the Christian community and the public to stand with the family in prayer during this period of mourning.

“We request for your prayers in all,” he said, signing off the message as “The Most Rev Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu.”

Besweri Kaddu is remembered by family, friends, and the wider community for his life and legacy, as preparations for his final send-off get underway.
