Some residents believe the incidents were simply unfortunate coincidences that complicated an already tragic accident. Others, however, suspect there may have been supernatural or politically motivated forces at play.
The death of Senior Presidential Advisor and Kayunga District National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairman, Moses Karisa Karangwa, has sparked grief, confusion, and speculation among residents and supporters, with some questioning whether the circumstances surrounding his final moments were merely coincidental.
Karangwa died on Monday night following a road accident. However, what has fueled public debate are the series of strange incidents that reportedly occurred as family members and health workers struggled to rush him to hospital.
During Karangwa’s requiem mass on Wednesday, his brother, identified only as Augustine, emotionally narrated the ordeal that unfolded in less than 30 minutes after the accident.
According to Augustine, the family secured a government ambulance to transport the critically injured Karangwa to hospital. But before the journey could begin, the ambulance needed fuel.

“We stopped at a petrol station to refill the ambulance. Other vehicles were being served normally, but when the attendant rushed to help us because it was an emergency, the fuel pump suddenly stopped working,” Augustine told mourners.
The unexpected breakdown at the fuel station immediately raised suspicion among some family members.
“I became angry and asked the driver why he had brought us there. I thought either they had no fuel or they simply did not want to help us,” he said.
The ambulance was later redirected to one of Karangwa’s fuel stations, where it was successfully refilled before continuing with the journey.
However, the family’s troubles were far from over.
Augustine revealed that shortly after leaving the fuel station, the ambulance reportedly developed a mechanical fault near Ntooke Village and completely failed to move.
“As we reached Ntooke Village, the ambulance suddenly stopped. I asked whether it was an old ambulance, but they told me it was actually a brand-new vehicle,” he said.
Frustrated and fearing for his brother’s life, Augustine confronted the driver, accusing him of causing unnecessary delays during a medical emergency. But the driver reportedly insisted the vehicle had genuinely broken down and even asked Augustine to try operating it himself.
The breakdown forced medics to call for another ambulance to continue the journey to Kampala.
Adding to the mystery, it is alleged that the second ambulance also developed a problem after suffering a flat tyre along the way. A third ambulance from St. Francis Naggalama Hospital was eventually used to transport Karangwa to Nakasero Hospital.
By the time he arrived in Kampala, reports indicate that Karangwa may already have passed away.
The unusual sequence of events has since divided opinion in Kayunga District.

Some residents believe the incidents were simply unfortunate coincidences that complicated an already tragic accident. Others, however, suspect there may have been supernatural or politically motivated forces at play.
Karangwa was known as an influential political figure in Kayunga and had reportedly been involved in several political disputes and land wrangles over the years. Some community members claim these conflicts may have earned him enemies.
Others have openly linked the strange events to witchcraft, a belief that remains deeply rooted in parts of society whenever unexplained tragedies occur.
Despite the speculation, there is no evidence linking any individual or group to Karangwa’s death beyond the confirmed road accident. Allegations circulating among residents remain unverified.
As family, friends, and political supporters prepare to lay him to rest in Kayunga District today, the circumstances surrounding his final journey continue to leave many searching for answers.
