The official letter from the House of Bishops announcing the election of Canon Paul Hanington Suubi as the 1st Bishop of East Busoga diocese.

The information in the letter further revealed that the Bishop Elect Suubi is married to Dr. Margaret Stella Suubi and God has blessed them with three Biological children.

He was ordained a Deacon in August 1993 and ordained a Priest in 1997.

He holds a Diploma in Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity.

He currently serves as Assistant Vicar at St Andrew’s Church of Uganda, Jinja. His ministry has been mainly in schools where he served as the longest serving Chaplain at Busoga College Mwiri.

He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour in 1994 when he realized that he could not walk alone but rather in Jesus Christ, inspired by St Paul in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Jesus Christ, it is no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me and the life I now live in the fresh, I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

About East Busoga Diocese.

East Busoga Diocese was created around 2022 having been curved from Busoga Diocese which has since been split into three with Central Busoga Diocese which takes the Districts of Iganga, Namutumba, Kaliro, Bugweri and Luuka. Now the newly created district covers 2 Districts including Bugiri and Namayingo which make up the Bukooli County according to Busoga Kingdom Administration.
Rev Can Suubi if successfully Enthroned, he will join the House of Bishops which will now be comprising of 39 members raising from the previous 37 Bishops after also the consecration of Bishop Barnabas Tibaijuka as the 1st Bishop of the recently created West Rwenzori Diocese. However, this development comes in as tensions continue to develop in the contested Luwero Diocese Bishop elections race. It should be remembered that the House of Bishops having nullified the election of Can Godfrey Kasana to replace Bishop Eridard Nsubuga as Luweero Diocese Bishop, tensions arose from the Pro Can Kasana Camp leading to filing a court case against the Archbishop Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu in Lueeero High Court which has since been transferred to Kampala. These are the same tensions that resulted into a confrontational attack on the Christians who had gathered last weekend in a church service presided over by the Care taker Bishop Rt Rev James William Ssebaggala leading to arrests of scores and many surviving with injuries.
