Police investigations, including a review of CCTV footage, reportedly showed Nakimuli boarding a taxi, registration number UBL 104Z, and later getting out at Matugga. The taxi then drove off before she returned.

A mother in Nansana Municipality is grappling with double tragedy following the death of her five-month-old baby and the mysterious disappearance of the child’s body.

Nakimuli Jjumba, a resident of Nansana, reportedly arrived at Mulago National Referral Hospital on Friday at around 10:00 p.m. with her critically ill baby, Pauline Namigadde. The child was said to be suffering from a high fever and extreme weakness.

According to Nakimuli, medical personnel attended to the baby and placed her on oxygen. However, the infant passed away on Saturday morning.

Unable to afford formal transport for the body, Nakimuli said she bought a bag in which she placed her baby’s remains and began the journey to her ancestral home in Migadde along Bombo Road, where relatives had gathered for burial arrangements.

She initially hired a boda boda rider who charged her sh40,000 for the trip. However, upon reaching Bwaise, she began feeling unwell and opted to continue the journey by taxi.

Nakimuli explained that when the taxi reached Matugga, she briefly got out to buy airtime in order to contact her relatives. On returning, she found that the taxi had already left with her belongings inside.

“I got frustrated and immediately hired a boda boda to chase after the taxi, but we were unsuccessful,” she said.

With no alternative, she proceeded to Migadde and informed her relatives about the incident. The matter was later reported to police.

Police investigations, including a review of CCTV footage, reportedly showed Nakimuli boarding a taxi, registration number UBL 104Z, and later getting out at Matugga. The taxi then drove off before she returned.

Authorities tracked down the vehicle’s owner, but the driver and conductor reportedly denied seeing any bag left behind after passengers disembarked. It is suspected that another passenger may have taken the bag, possibly mistaking it for merchandise.

The whereabouts of the baby’s body remain unknown.

Family members, led by Paul Ssekajja Magoola, expressed frustration and distress over the incident, calling on anyone who may have seen or taken the bag to come forward and assist in its recovery.

Nakimuli has since returned to her home in Ngalonnyambe Village, Gombe Division, Nansana Municipality, where she remains deeply distressed. The baby’s father is reportedly working abroad.
