In a statement that quickly drew reactions online, Muhoozi further said Kabanda would only take up a ministerial position when Richard Todwong also becomes a minister.
The Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has defended Kasambya County MP David Kabanda following public debate over his absence from President Yoweri Museveni’s newly released cabinet list.
Gen. Muhoozi, who is also the Chief of Defence Forces made the remarks while addressing hundreds of Ugandans who had been mocking Kabanda after he missed out on the latest cabinet appointments.
Through a post on X, Muhoozi dismissed claims that Kabanda had been sidelined, insisting that his current role as Secretary General of PLU carries greater importance than a ministerial position.
According to Muhoozi, Kabanda’s responsibility of mobilising and organising millions of young Ugandans under the PLU banner places him at a higher level of national influence than many cabinet ministers.

“My young brother Hon. Kabanda is the General Secretary of the Patriotic League of Uganda, a much more important position than being a cabinet minister. His job is to organise and mobilise the millions of young people in our country,” Muhoozi posted.
In a statement that quickly drew reactions online, Muhoozi further said Kabanda would only take up a ministerial position when Richard Todwong also becomes a minister.
“Kabanda will get a ministerial job when Todwong gets one,” he added.
The comments have since sparked political discussion among supporters and critics, with many interpreting Muhoozi’s remarks as a sign of the growing political significance of the PLU and its youthful mobilisation agenda ahead of Uganda’s future political landscape.
