The Wakiso District Chairperson, Dr. Matia Lwanga Bwanika has disclosed that he is not standing for the same post in the 2026 general elections, and that he is instead standing as a Member of Parliament for Busiro South Constituency, a seat currently occupied by Charles Matovu who is on a National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.
Bwanika was a staunch Democratic Party member until 2016, when he crossed to NUP. He became the district chairperson in 2011, the position he has held to date.
Dr. Bwanika implored whoever will succeed him to endeavour to uphold the achievements registered under his leadership and to continue to foster unity for development of the district.
The district governor who was addressing district workers at their end-of-year party held at Kitinda Lakeside Beach Entebbe, attacked unnamed civil servants whom he said are being used by the security to spy on their fellow workers, and blamed them for feeding those assigning them with misleading information fraught with fueling enmity amongst workers.
He said a lot of tension has been created by such malicious and unfounded reports, leading to work that is improperly executed, and in effect leaving loopholes in the service delivery struggle.
An environmentalist and a human rights advocate, Dr. Bwanika implored the workers to observe a high degree of civility, saying that however many educational qualifications one might be holding without changing from primitively, he/she will be an unfortunate occurrence to society.
Stressing his point, the district boss said, “Growing up is a must because whoever clocks 18 years is referred to as an adult, but if you were ill-bred and brought in such a manner, you will remain useless”.
The district Education Officer, Frederick Kiyingi Kinobe advised the civil servants to start preparing for their exit by making some investments to retire on, instead of waiting to leave and begin thinking of setting up something for survival.
“If you say you are still young, all I can tell you is that you are wrong and after one year in retirement, they will announce you dead over stress,” he said.
Cissy Nabikolo, the Wakiso district accountant was declared and crowned as the worker of the year.
