The State House Anti-Corruption Agency has recommended the interdiction of more than 25 officials from Isingiro District, Buhweju District and Mbarara City to pave the way for investigations into alleged high-level corruption.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the Minister for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, following visits to districts in the Ankole sub-region under the government’s “Expose the Corrupt” campaign.
According to the minister, the agency has written to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government recommending that the officials be interdicted to allow investigators to carry out independent and impartial inquiries without interference.
In Isingiro District, the officials named include Chief Administrative Officer Alice Asiimwe Rushure, Chief Finance Officer Byagagire Innocent, District Engineer Ayebazibwe Mishaki, District Veterinary Officer Dr. Kasozi Bruhan, District Natural Resources Officer Bwengye Emmanuel, District Procurement Officer Kamwine Frank, Principal Assistant Secretary Gumisiriza Aloysius and District Commercial Officer Musinguzi Patrick.
In Buhweju District, those recommended for interdiction include Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Katambakyi Swizen, District Health Officer Atukunda Prudence, District Production Officer Nshemerirwe Flavia, District Internal Auditor Twinomugisha Charles, Senior Education Assistant Twinomuhoozi Gilbert, Nsika Town Council SAS/Town Clerk Bainemugisha Gastone, Assistant Nursing Officers Byamukama John and Katushabe Aurellia, Midwives Musimenta Lilian and Tusasire Julian, as well as the District Physical Planner, whose name had not yet been confirmed.
For Mbarara City, the recommendation covers Town Clerk Barekye Justine, City Engineer Tumwijukye Ben, Finance Officer Kamugisha Dunant, Procurement Officer Atwine Edgar, Revenue Officer Samuel Rwakinanga, City Commercial and Trade Officer Karakure Allan, Natural Resources Officer Niwagaba Sancho, Community Development Officer Kabeigarire Mirabel and City Health Officer Mugisha Longino.
Barugahara emphasized that the interdictions are administrative measures intended to facilitate investigations and should not be interpreted as findings of guilt.
“The individuals listed are suspects, not convicted persons, and the investigations should establish the facts while ensuring that due process is fully observed,” the minister said.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fighting corruption, saying the campaign aims to safeguard public resources, promote transparency and improve service delivery.
“The fight against corruption and the campaign to protect public resources must continue. Uganda deserves accountable leadership, transparency and quality services for every citizen,” Barugahara added.
If approved by the Ministry of Local Government, the interdictions will remain in force while investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Agency continue.
