The Inspectorate of Government has arrested Atim Mega, a Senior Agricultural Engineer with Apac District Local Government, over allegations of uttering a false document during her application for employment.

In a statement shared on its official X account, the Inspectorate said Atim recorded a statement at the IGG Lira Regional Office and is expected to appear before court in Apac District on May 26, 2026.

According to the Inspectorate, investigations revealed that in May 2024, Atim applied for the position of Senior Agricultural Engineer with Apac District Local Government and was later appointed.

However, the appointment letter she allegedly submitted as proof of work experience from Itek-Okille Farmers’ Cooperative Society has reportedly been disowned by the institution’s leadership.

The document, dated February 3, 2020, allegedly indicated that Atim had worked as an Agricultural Engineer at the cooperative society. Investigators say the institution later declared the letter a forgery and stated that she had never been employed there.

The Inspectorate said the suspect is being investigated under Section 328 of the Penal Code Act Cap 128, which criminalises knowingly and fraudulently uttering false documents.

The law provides that any person convicted of uttering a false document is liable to the same punishment as one found guilty of forgery.

The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the Inspectorate of Government to crack down on fraud and abuse of office in public service recruitment.
